Submissions

 Poolbeg Press first opened its doors in 1976 and over the years it has become synonymous with nurturing and showcasing new women’s writing. Our slogan Poolbeg the Irish for Bestsellers is particularly apt as authors who were discovered by Poolbeg, such as Maeve Binchy, Marian Keyes, Patricia Scanlan, Cathy Kelly and Sheila O’Flanagan, have become favourites on bookshelves not only in Ireland but throughout the world. We strive to maintain the highest possible standard in good writing and enjoyable storytelling in women’s fiction. 

 We welcome submissions, whether through an agent or directly from you. A preliminary submission should consist of 3 chapters, a synopsis and a short biography. It should be posted in as a printout and on a USB stick. Should we be interested, we will get back to you to request the full manuscript. 

1. Partial Manuscript Submission: Please submit a printout of the first three chapters of your manuscript.

2. Keep the Original: Retain the original copy of your work, as Poolbeg Press does not return materials due to the high volume of submissions.

3. Introduce Yourself: Include a brief biography to introduce yourself to us.

4. Contact Information: On the title page of your submission, provide your name, address, phone number, and email.

5. Word Count: Display the word count of your book on the title page.

6. Single-Sided Printing: Print on one side of each page only.

7. No Binding: Do not bind your printout; use elastic bands to secure it.

8. Secure Packaging: When sending your printout by post, please use a sturdy padded envelope to prevent damage during transit. Regular envelopes may tear.

9. Word Length: Novels should have a length ranging from 90,000 to 125,000 words, while non-fiction works should be at least 70,000 words.

10. Submission Address: Address your submission to Paula Campbell, Publisher, Poolbeg Press, 123 Grange Hill, Baldoyle, Dublin 13.

11. No Status Updates: Unfortunately, due to the high volume of submissions, we are unable to provide updates on the status of your manuscript.
