Anne Marie lived in New York for ten years and in her past has had her fair share of jobs. She worked in banking, Public Relations, in Harrods, London as a shop assistant, as a waitress in a Kosher deli and on an American TV show. She is also (bizarrely) licenced to trade stocks and futures in New York State (yet another job). She ran a non-profit organization Emerald Isle Immigration Centre (for Irish Immigrants to US) for three years and has also been an actor and stand up comic.
Anne Marie’s interests are no different to any other girls, she loves the essentials: shoes, handbags and chocolate and REALLY loves dogs; she writes for John Ryan’s New York Dog magazine.
Having freelanced as a journalist for the past 18 months Ann Marie has met icons such as Maureen O’Hara and Bill Clinton (she lost the plot and turned into a screaming female fan!). She has met presidents and film stars, politicians and writers.
In her ‘extensive’ research for It’s Not Me, It’s You, Anne Marie (for work purposes only!) visited the Museum of Sex in Manhattan and said:
“It was a bit disappointing overall, it should really be called the Museum of Pornography because the exhibits don’t reflect any sort of sexuality prior to the invention of the camera (maybe sex in Ireland did begin with RTE after all). Anyway I tramped around the two temporary exhibits they had (Pin Up Girls & Stag Films) in high heels and by the time I got to the permanent exhibition my feet were killing me. In the corner of the room housing the permanent exhibition (which is a sorry effort) there is a screen showing modern porn films on a loop. Everyone in the room were studiously avoiding looking at it and just pretending it wasn’t there – in the Museum of Sex for Gods sake! There were two benches in front of the screen and as I said my feet were killing me so I planked myself down on one of them. In less than a minute both benches were full and other people were standing around. Nobody was prepared to be the first to sit down and watch the porn, but as soon as one person did there was a stampede! I got there first!”
She finished up her popular Evening Herald column, The New York Doll, in order to write the book, and now lives in London .
