I was born in Longford in 1962. I have two brothers and one sister. We were brought up on a farm. I have always loved the countryside, to be able to see the distant horizon without being interrupted by concrete, is a real luxury. As a child on the farm I was always making up stories and day dreaming and I never really knew what was going on in school, my day dreaming got in the way a lot. After leaving secondary school I studied Construction Studies at Sligo IT. There wasn’t much work in that area, so I worked at various jobs. My sister studied Fashion Design in the Grafton Academy and we set up our own business in Longford. After a few years I was really bored with it and I wanted to do something else. I left to do some travelling and spent some time in Australia and London . I returned to Longford in my early thirties, I got married and we had two children. When I returned to Longford I got a job with an American company and worked with them for ten years. When I started with the company I was doing data entry. After I had my children, I worked part-time in the accounts department. I am separated now.
I enjoy reading and going for walks. I also enjoy cooking. I was a member of Longford’s writing group. We met once a month. Before I got published the writer in residence had a look at my work, he was very supportive and gave me the confidence to stick with it. I did and after I had the first few chapters of Misbehaving done I sent them off to Poolbeg.
At the moment I am working part time in Longford Library and combining that with writing. The fact that I got published is a dream come true. I try to write something everyday because when I take a break for a few days I find it really hard to get back into it. It’s hard to be balanced about your own work, I sway all the time from it’s okay to it’s terrible. So I try to just do it and not think about it. I can waste a lot of energy thinking negatively. I always feel better about myself when I write. For me writing is an escape from reality and it’s cheaper than therapy.

Hidden in the attic, a dusty cardboard box containing a doll, a teddy and some old photographs poses new questions. And Ella has to find the answers. How could her mother, Betty, have lied to her? For years, her slurred words and unfinished sentences fuelled by alcohol had hinted that there were questions unanswered and secrets sealed away, never to be revealed…
But the little girl in the faded photograph has to be her sister Nina and that man has to be her real father.
Ella feels anger well up inside her. How could Betty have hidden the existence of her other daughter? Had Nina got on with her life and forgotten about them?
Ella cannot trust Betty. If she is to make sense of her life she will have to find Nina.

Could someone from your past just walk into your life and tilt it so that you lost your direction?
Kathy Rodgers’ debut novel Misbehaving is a haunting tale of a love affair that wreaks havoc on and destroys a marriage. From the opening line - "It was lunch-time and it was like rush-hour in my head" - we catch a glimpse of an ordinary life about to be thrown into painful disarray. Michelle, mum to Jack and husband to Gary loses forever her ordinary existence after a chance meeting in the most banal of situations, doing the shopping.
In writing Misbehaving Rodgers has created completely credible characters that we can readily identify with. Our heroine has a child and she has to shop for nappies and everyday household necessities. Weaving her wonderful and at times frightening tale we become fascinated with how such an ordinary life can so easily be flung off the rails. While Misbehaving has all the elements of a simple love story it pushes the boundaries and suddenly the reader can see the potential for danger in her own life.
"His voice opening up the past, making my heart race. A part of me longed to reach out and touch him, to see if he was real..."
Michelle's life was busy, ordinary busy. She had a job, a 14-month-old baby boy, Jack, and a husband Gary.
Five years ago, heartbroken, she had fled Sydney and her boyfriend Damien had done nothing to stop her. Rescued from misery by Gary she fell willingly into his reliable arms.
Now Damien has come back and just expects to take up where he left off. With his devilish eyes, full of mischief, dormant feelings begin to resurface. As a sense of excitement and danger fill her with new energy, would a little misbehaving really ruin everything?
Only if she gets caught!
