Emma might be weighed down with baggage, but she’s looking to the stars
Jacinta McDevitt makes a welcome return with another light-hearted romantic comedy guaranteed to make you turn the pages as you laugh, cry and shout out loud! Her previous two novels, Sign’s On and Handle With Care met with a great response from readers, who devoured her familiar stories – Jacinta McDevitt writes about the things that can, and invariably will, happen in everyday life, and always with hilarious consequences. Sometimes it can be a little tricky to deal with life’sexcess baggage…
Emma’s life revolves around addiction and passion. She’s addicted to her lover Ronan, her daughter Julia and reading her horoscope…and she’s passionate about her ex-boyfriend Danny and flying.
Well, she hates both with a passion. Danny because he dumped her in the middle of her own birthday party. And flying because she is terrified.
But on a return flight from Paris she finds herself seated beside Danny and agrees to have dinner with him. Why did she agree to it? He has hurt her badly and she really loves Ronan. Well she would love him even more if he had agreed to move in with her. But he didn’t.
Feeling rejected, Emma heads off on holiday to the sun with her best friend Abigail who is convinced her husband is having an affair, and her daughter who has just dumped her wimp of a boyfriend. But with the slimy Marco to fend off and some surprise guests, Emma’s love life is weighed down with excess baggage.
And all she really wants is to be loved.
‘She’s done with kissing frogs’
She had us laughing out loud at Linda’s antics in Sign’s On. Now Jacinta McDevitt is back and this time Handle with Care is the message. Divorce, night classes, kissing friends, coincidences and reiterating that Dublin is a very small town are all part and parcel of Jacinta’s latest offering. Kelly’s on a mission. It’s Valentine’s day and while all the world is making love Kelly, just divorced, is making a list. It’s what she does best – she’s brilliant at it – and it’s a whole lot cheaper than therapy.
Being married to Graham didn’t put her off men – in fact, she loves them and all their funny little ways.
But now she wants a prince, one that will handle her with care, and there is nowhere she won’t look…internet chat-rooms, night-classes, notice-boards.
Aided and abetted by her two daughters (who are into some hot loving of their own) and her three best friends, she’s out to find her prince and he’d better be charming.
Handle with Care - a modern day fairy tale.
‘When someone's just stolen your life, sign's on it's time for a change!’
When first time author Jacinta McDevitt fell down the stairs and broke her leg her life changed completely. From being an active, busy person she became totally dependent on others and found herself with a lot of time on her hands. With numerous short stories published and one already broadcast on RTE Radio she decided to relieve the boredom of gazing at her plastered leg by developing some of the many characters that had been playing around in her head.
The result, Sign's On is a sophisticated, sassy novel in the best tradition of well crafted women's fiction. A gutsy story of how sometimes we need to stand back and take a long hard look at life and maybe make some changes.
"My darling, darling Linda..."
Wow, what an opener...and how romantic!
But as Linda reads on she discovers that the note is not a tender love-note but more of a buggered-off type note.
It seems that Dick is sick of being a husband, and father of their two, almost grown, children so he has left to 'find himself'-not in the lost property office, but on the beautiful island of Crete.
Well, her life had been in a bit of rut before he left. Now it was more your deep crevasse - Grand Canyon style.
To add insult to injury her 18-year-old hormone on legs, Carl thinks he has found himself, in the arms of an older woman-in fact much older and with a child-while daughter Chloe wants to get her nose and God knows what else pierced.
All out of love and with half of her life missing in action and the other half acting up, Linda's determined she's going to show them all.
Hold tight…Linda's about to fight back.
