Author of The Haunting of Alice Fairlie, The Ghost By The Sea, Ghoul’s Den, Nicholas Moonlight and Weerdwood Eileen Dunlop has lived in Scotland all her life. Born in Alloa, 13 October 1938, she was educated at Alloa Academy and Moray House College, Edinburgh. She was Assistant Head, Sunnyside School, Alloa 1970--79, and Head of the Preparatory School, Dollar Academy 1980-90, both also full-time teaching posts. She married Antony Kamm in 1979, and they have lived in Dollar since 1980. Robinsheugh (Oxford University Press 1975) was the first of her 19 novels for children and young adults, all of which are set in Scotland and reflect the past as well as the present. The House on the Hill (OUP 1987) was commended for the Carnegie Medal and chosen for the Library Association's Scottish Writers Project 2000; in USA it was a Junior Library Guild Choice, ALA Notable Book, and nominated for an Edgar Allan Poe Award of the Mystery Writers of America. For The Maze Stone (OUP 1982) and Clementina (OUP 1985) she received SAC Book Awards. Finn's Island (Blackie 1991) was commended for the McVitie's Prize for the Scottish Writer of the Year. Ghoul's Den (Poolbeg 1999) and Nicholas Moonlight (Poolbeg 2002) were shortlisted for the Reading Association of Ireland Children's Book Award. Her books have been published in Austria, Japan, Norway, and Sweden, as well as in USA and Ireland. She has also written children's books about St Columba, St Patrick, St Mungo, and saints of Scotland, and collaborated with her husband on four collections of Scottish verse and five Scottish information books for children. She is now working on an adult biography of Queen (St) Margaret of Scotland, for publication by NMS in 2005.
